Collection consists of the records of Phoenix fraternity at Dartmouth College and of its predecessor, Delta Nu Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta. Includes material that relates to the conflict between college policy and the policy of the national organization of Phi Gamma Delta in regard to the pledging of minority students and the subsequent withdrawal of Delta Nu Chapter from Phi Gamma Delta. Includes the constitution of Phoenix. Also includes correspondence with trustees, advisory board members, and alumni of Delta Nu and Phoenix, treasurers' books, and other financial papers, as well as general records and correspondence.

The celebration of the 150th anniversary of the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in the Dartmouth College Case was held on April 9, 1969, in the Court of Claims, Washington, D.C.; the celebration also commemorated the career of Daniel Webster, the advocate who defended the case before the Supreme Court. During the ceremony Justice Earl Warren, Senator Thomas J. MacIntyre, and Dartmouth College President John Sloan Dickey spoke before an audience of legislators, jurists, historians, and alumni....

Delta Nu Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta was organized at Dartmouth College in 1901. In 1965 the local fraternity Phoenix was organized to replace Delta Nu.
